Cowboy Shirt

Found this awesome shirt at D.I. for pennies, took in the sides (each 2 inches) and hemmed the sleeves up about 2 inches.  It's my new favorite shirt!!!

Recent Up cycles

First I made Max a pair of pants out of a pair of Jarrett's old cords. ...using the existing fly and buttons and pockets.  I also reinforced the knees with two layers of  the original pants.  (I've learned my lesson there)

I have yet to hem the bottoms.
I'm waiting for fall and I know how much he's grown.
Last year we bought max and Lilly some pants in summer (for the fall) and then come fall, they didn't fit in the legs.  Too short.  Even though I thought we bought them plenty long enough.

Then I made Lilly a shirt out of one of Jarrett's old shirts.  She loves it and wore it last weekend, Friday through Monday.  She tried to wear it again on Tuesday, but I said enough is enough.  It needs to be washed.

Lilly's Haircut

One day out of the blue, Lilly said to me "I wonder how I would look with short hair?"  I said "you've had short hair before and you looked really cute!"  Lilly replied , "No, I mean really short."
I then spent the next 5 days trying to talk her out of it.  Not because I cared that her hair was short, it's her hair and she can do whatever she wants with it.  It's just sometimes kids think they know what they want and then when they get it, they don't like it or want it.  I knew her cutting her hair super short (2 inches long) would be a drastic change to her two feet long hair.
We went through everything that might happen, kids being mean, her hair  "not looking" like the pictures, etc.  My sister is a beautician and so she brought home a magazine of short hairstyles for Lilly to look at.  We also spent hours on google looking at hairstyles.
This is the one she decided on.  She liked the short spikey hair styles better, but her hair is curly like mine so....

This is right before, she was really nervous.

She had a huge smile on her face the entire time!

Amelia just cut of the majority of it first, to get it out of the way and at this point, Lilly looked at it and said "You're going to cut it shorter right?"

Here is the before and after

Lilly absolutely LOVES it!!!
I'm proud of her for doing such a brave thing.
The next morning before she went to school she looked in the mirror and said "I look good!"
She had a rough first day of school though.
All day she got "Are you a boy or a girl?" and "You look like a boy"
My sister Shaunie crochets (knits?) and she made Lilly these awesome skull headbands.
To help her look a little more feminine.

She looks adorable!  Like Rosie the Riveter!  Lilly has never like to wear stuff in her hair so I was a little skeptical about the headbands.  But she loves them.  So we went to hot topic and bought her some cute ones that are right up her alley.  Black with white hearts, black with white stars, pink with black skulls and black with pink and blue skulls.
Even despite the ridicule she loves her hair and says she wants to keep it short for a while. Yea Lilly! She is braver than me and I love her for it!
