Sunday Sketches Week 17

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes!  All the good energy sent my way must have helped because I woke up feeling great!  I did 3 sketches all in under 15 minutes.  I concentrated on line, placement and movement.

Lilly eating breakfast with "bed head" hair. Her hand holding the spoon is evidence that I drew this in under 5 minutes it looks a little wonky as do her eyes, but when your study model keeps moving you have to too!

My little Max.  Also just up and eating breakfast.  He's got "bed head" as well.  This one of him was done in probably the shortest amount of time as he was purposely trying to finish as fast as he could as to not let me be able to draw him.  This one was probably 2 or 3 minutes.

This last one is of my hubby doing something on this phone.  I took the longest time on this one...mostly just because he sits still.  This one was probably done in 8 or 9 minutes.
It's been a long time since I've just sat and sketched.  It brings me back to my High school and College days when we had 15 minutes to do 15 thumbnail sketches of the girls in the dance studio.  Focusing only on line and movement.  We then went back to the art room and had the remaining hour or so to choose one of the thumbnails and do a completed drawing of it.  It was tough at first, but it certainly made me a better drawer and be quicker at getting what I saw, down onto the paper.  As I've practiced sketching and painting more this year than any the last 10 years, my ability to draw, sketch and paint has come back and I don't want to ever loose it again!

Sunday Sketches Week 16

Haven't done any sketches in a LONG time! We'll I've sketched out stuff for paintings but haven't sketched in my sketch book.  Woke up this morning to poor Max throwing up.  So since he was finally sitting so still on the couch (which never happens when he is feeling well)I got out my sketch book and did a quick line drawing of him.   I'm lovingly naming it "The throw up Bucket."  Some of the proportions are wrong especially on the bucket, but I think I captured the mood quite well.  What do you think?
I also took about 50 pictures trying to get a non blurry one and wouldn't you know it, the one clear one cuts off the bottom. Ha ha!  Oh well.

Lilly's Sketches

I was going to wait until Sunday to show these but they were just too cute.  Lilly (6 years) has been obsessed with comic books and Graphic Novel style books for a long time.  I think her father had something to do with it.   That being said, while I was working on a painting the other day she was looking through a Batgirl graphic novel and she started looking at and drawing some scenes and people from it.  I had to check twice on that guy with the cigarette in his mouth.  I thought she had traced it at first.  Nope, the original was about a quarter the size of the one she drew.  She just has a knack for drawing.  She has always been very observant.  When she was about 2 years old, we were driving in the car in the winter and she said to me "Look momma the mountains look blue."  I was 10 or 11 and my father had to point out to me in a painting class, that mountains from far away look blue or sometimes purple.

Sunday Sketches Week 11

This is Lilly laying on a blanket sketched with a live model and the one of Max was done from a photo.  He looks like an old man to me.  I think it's the sketchy lines.  Or the hair.  Who know, maybe if I had more time.

Sunday Sketches Week 9

I cut a beautiful bouquet from our yard yesterday and saw it sitting on the kitchen table when I pulled out my sketch pad so it was the  inspiration for my sketch today.  Keep in mind it's not a finished drawing but just a quick sketch.

Sunday Sketches Week 8

Lilly's face looks a little "old" or something, but that's what you get with 10 minutes...no time to work the bugs out.

The little aspen tree out my bedroom window.  The leaves are just opening and it's got icicles on it, from last night's snow storm.

Sunday Sketches

I finally did it.  Sunday sketches, on Sunday! The first one I actually sketched really quick yesterday evening up the canyon, and finished up after dinner tonight.  It's up at Vivian Park.  I went fishing there with my sisters and Dad and uncle one summer.   The other 2 I did real quick while the family was downstairs holding still for a few seconds.

xbox anyone? The arm on the right, I just couldn't get right, and I didn't have enough time to study it out.
Happy Sunday Everyone!

Monday Sketches again

So this whole Sunday sketches thing, it's beginning to be more of a Monday sketches type thing.  This one is all about the kids since I haven't had time to do anything but clean, paint and organize the last 3 days.  Our new desk we got from Ikea came in two parts and had 2 gigantic pieces of paper that came with it.  So to keep the kids occupied while I cleaned and my husband put the desk together, we put the paper in the only spot in the house that wasn't covered with junk....the hallway.  The kids had a blast.

Max's picture is a map.  With a sun and mountains and red rain that is falling sideways.......from fire.

Lilly told me that hers was from the movie Megamind.

Monday Sketches

I realized too late on Sunday to want to do anything so I waited until this afternoon when things calmed down to do a quick sketch.  I'm a little (okay a lot) rusty at drawing people...especially ones that are constantly moving.  In High School and college I was able to do 1 minute quick thumb nail sketches of people and then make a finished drawing from it.  But that was like 14 years ago.  I'd like to do a quick drawing everyday of the kids or things we are doing, to make a journal of sorts.  But anyways.  So I sketched this picture of the kids while they were watching a movie. Toy Story. It's not by any means a finished drawing.  It's not to scale and Lilly and Max weren't sitting that close.  Max was on the floor and Lilly was on the couch.  I also drew a few of the toys that were laying around.  Woody and a piggy bank.

So sketches are a go.......SUNDAY SKETCHES

Lilly and I drew pictures of each other.  This is obviously Lilly.

 Doodles

Max used to only draw Monster Trucks, but now that he's learning his letters and numbers he's pretty much obsessed with it.  He practices ALL the time.  Pointing out all the letter and numbers....EVERYWHERE!
I'm going to brag now, but it IS my blog and that's what it's for right!? Bragging?
Max knows ALL of his uppercase and lowercase letters and the sounds they make.  And he can recognize them just by sound.  Like if I said what letter makes the "mmm" sound or "sss" sound and he can tell me which one it is.  He can even look at this
D d e
And figure out which one doesn't belong.   What makes this so incredible is the fact that he wasn't even talking a year ago.  There is a really great website called STARFALL. Just click on the ABC part for smaller kids and there are other options for older kids.
