HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Enjoying the Outdoors

I've been super busy the last 3 days preparing our yard for the summer months and just enjoying the warmth of the sun.  I've been completely exhausted by the time I finally come inside for the night and have not done a thing except sit in front of the T.V. and fall asleep around 10pm.  Next week should be more relaxing and I'll share some photos of what I've been up to.

Torn

I'm finding it increasingly more difficult to decide where to spend my time.  Sewing or Painting.  When I've been painting for a few days, I feel like I never want to stop, like I wouldn't care if I  never sewed again, and then the same goes for when I've been sewing.   There are so many things I want to paint and sew I feel like there isn't enough time in the day to do everything....and there's not.  Now that the weather has finally decided to warm up...at least for this week, It's even harder to stay inside and do either.  Good thing I can paint outside!  Sewing will have to wait till the sun goes down.

Watercolor Wednesday Week 14

This painting is of a corner of my Grandma Andrews' backyard.  I spent a couple of weeks at her house In Colorado each summer with my family.  A large portion of the time was spent painting with her and sitting on her porch swing, swinging away with her singing to us, watching the planes fly over.  Those were happy times and ones I'll always cherish.

Old School Nightie

 When I was little I always slept in a nightie.  You know the kind?  A one piece dress that's long, flowery and flowy with lots ruffles and ribbon.   The kind the girl in the Nutcracker wore.

One of the fabrics my friend gave me, just screamed "nightie."

So I started planning out how this nightie would look.  I found a tutorial on SEW MAMA SEW, for a Spring  Ruffle Top, which I thought would work great for a nightie.  I followed the instructions on the tutorial with a few adjustments.  I didn't add the pockets, I lengthen it, added BUTTON HOLES (YEA!!!) and put in a ribbon and added some ruffles to the bottom.  I've got a shirt in the works for Lilly and maybe dress as well with this pattern.

 This was before I added the ruffles to the bottom.  I thought I was done but it clearly needed some ruffles.

Lilly could not stop twirling in this nightie!

My Little Rock Star

 For quite some time now, Lilly has wanted to be a Rockstar!  Partly I think because of Rockband" and "Guitar Hero."  Partly because her favorite book series character "Babymouse" has a book where she is one, and partly because she's my daughter and I used to pretend when I was little that I was one.  Listening to my dad tapes and records and playing guitar and singing along.  This outfit she's wearing is her "rockstar outfit."  She would wear it everyday if I'd let her.  She's tried believe me.  She put it together herself too.  She's been asking to make a guitar for a while.  Asking for the cardboard anyways. So we dug some out of our garage yesterday and I drew one up and Jarrett cut it out, Lilly colored it, frets and all.  Then Jarrett stapled some rubber bands to it to make the strings.

Isn't she cute!  She totally posed all by herself!
